Saint Paul Public Schools in Minnesota has an inventive school breakfast program to ensure students have time to eat the most important meal of the day. Breakfast to Go (B2G) currently runs in 50 elementary and secondary schools and adds a twist to Breakfast in the Classroom.
After putting away their coats and backpacks, students take a trip to the cafeteria, pick up a bag, choose their breakfast items from the serving line and proceed to their classroom to eat. While the students are eating, teachers take attendance, collect homework or read to the class. Teachers have reported that B2G helps students settle down for the day and because the students have eaten breakfast they have fewer visits to the nurse’s office, less tardiness and fewer disruptions.
To make B2G one step easier, Saint Paul Public Schools also created a short video for students, parents and teachers to watch, explaining the serving process and the health and academic benefits of eating school breakfast.
And what do the students get to eat?
B2G offers both hot and cold breakfast items including whole wheat breakfast breads made from scratch and egg and cheese tortillas. Every breakfast comes with a side of fresh fruit. This month’s menu includes mango, pineapple, kiwi, orange and apple wedges.

Nice video. Fun way to share with parents & nice to see all of the school staff involved in ensuring these children receive a great start to the day.
This is a great thing to see as a working mom. Sometimes it’s difficult to make sure my kids get a well balanced breakfast to start the day off right! Thanks!
